Become an ATLAS Volunteer Tutor!
Make a difference in the life of an adult student.

Description:
The ATLAS Literacy program teaches reading, writing, and/or math skills at the pre-high-school level to adult learners. Volunteers provide one-on-one and small group tutoring to students in the classroom setting. Volunteers meet with their students once or twice a week for 2.5 hours per session. Both daytime and evening sessions are available. The sessions run through the regular school year.

Duties:
  • Help students set learning goals and schedule learning tasks.
  • Help students understand and learn from their instructional materials.
  • Provide motivation and support to the students.

Typical hours each week:
2.5 or 5 hours

Training:
You will attend the ATLAS Literacy training. This ten-hour class covers many topics, including: how adults learn, different learning styles, teaching phonics, teaching reading comprehension, teaching writing, student goal-setting, and lesson planning.
